Benriach
Quarter Cask PeatedBeskrivning
Our Distillery founder, John Duff, pursued whisky adventures at home and abroad, before building BenRiach Distillery in 1898, in the north of Speyside. It is in his adventurous spirit that we boldly approach the art of distillation and cask maturation, pushing the boundaries of malt alchemy like no other. As an unconventional Speyside whisky distiller, we distill three malt whisky styles - unpeated, peated and triple distilled. Over our 120 year history this has allowed us to build a reputation for eclectic cask maturation, with an uninterrupted inventory dating back to 1966. Back in the 1970’s, the BenRiach Distillery made the bold move of returning to distilling peated malt, at a time when most Speyside distillers had moved their focus towards unpeated malt distillation. This experiment with a peated variation of our classic quarter cask expression was awarded the best Speyside single malt in their non-age statement category during the 2018 World Whisky Awards.

In the spirit of our intrepid founding father, John Duff, who ventured to Kentucky and South Africa in pursuit of whisky adventures in the late 1880s, BenRiach is known for its bold approach to whisky making; being the first to distill Speyside whiskies from both peated and unpeated malted barley. Thanks to this pioneering, ‘dual distilling’ heritage, BenRiach enjoys the oldest collection of rare, peated vintages in Speyside and offers a uniquely balanced range of peated and unpeated malts. Peated BenRiach is a return to the original character of Speyside malts in the 19th Century.BenRiach is one of just two remaining Speyside distilleries to seasonally produce whisky using malted barley from its own traditional floor maltings. As well as honouring ancient whisky making traditions, we constantly seek new ways to delight drinkers, drawing inspiration from around the world
