Sierra Tequila- Original Mexican TequilaSierra Tequila Gold is an original Mexican tequila. Sierra Tequila Gold is produced solely from the heart pieces of the blue agave “Tequiliana Weber” under strict control from the Mexican government. Only the distillate from this special agave grown in this special region - the Jalisco province - is allowed to carry the name “Tequila”. The agave plant belongs to the cactus family, but looks more like a yucca palm. The blue agaves grow on the plateau around “Destileria Sierra” in Atotonilco el Alto in more than 2000 meters’ height. Not until after 8-10 years are the precious blue agaves ripe and can be harvested. To harvest the heart pieces - which resemble a pineapple - you have to remove the pricking leaves of the agave plant. The heart pieces are distilled twice (pot still distillation) after old, traditional methods in copper boilers (alambiques).
