This enticing Chenin blanc celebrates Nederburg’s founder, Philippus Wolvaart, who established the Nederburg farm in 1791. Various winemaking techniques were used to create a lively, rich and layered wine full of character. Discover fragrances and tastes of apricots and oranges, flowers, raisins and spice.This wine is made from Chenin blanc (85%) and Grenache blanc (15%).One portion of fruit was fermented in second- and third-fill 300-litre barrels. A second component was fermented in stainless-steel tanks, while a third was fermented in very old, large vats and the remainder involved a fermentation technique usually reserved for red wines. Called carbonic maceration, whole bunches which are neither crushed nor pressed, are allowed to ferment spontaneously. This technique was chosen for the freshness it would impart to the wine. After malolactic fermentation, the various components were kept on the lees for 9 months prior to final blending and bottling.

The Nederburg Manor House lies at the foot of the Drankenstein Mountains in the region that is known as Paarl. This is where, in 1791, Nederburg’s anchorman and founder, Philippus Wolvaart purchased 47ha of land for 56 guilders to plant vines.The farm was bought by Johann Graue in 1937. He was a viticulturalist, tea specialist and brewmaster, and set the stage for the quality and experimentation that we know today. Johann’s son Arnold, a young winemaker and pilot, died tragically in an airplane accident and a young German winemaker, Günter Brözel took over the winemaking. Günter was a gifted winemaker, obsessed with quality, and he soon became affectionately known as the Motorcycle Marvel for his surveys of the vineyard on his 250cc motorcycle in a career that spanned 33 years at Nederburg. When Razvan Macici was appointed cellar master at Nederburg in 2001 he brought with him experience from Europe and from Stellenbosch to continue two centuries of tradition and quality.
