When he inherited the company in 1833, Louis Roederer aimed to master every stage of the wine’s creation, forging the wine’s unique style and character. In the mid-19th Century, Louis Roederer acquired some of Champagne’s Grand Cru vineyards, an approach that contrasted with contemporary practices. Louis Roederer’s guiding principle was that all great wine depends on the quality of the soil, a passion for tradition and a vision of the future.His heir, Louis Roederer II adopted his father’s approach to champagne. Louis Roederer II fashioned exclusive champagne for the Tsar and launched the very first Cuvée de Prestige. It was created in 1876 and named ‘Cristal’. Ever since, the elegance of Cristal has forged Louis Roederer’s reputation for excellence.
