The hill of Montgueux is known for its superlative Chardonnay, lending both finesse and power to its wines. It has been a well-kept secret of many of the master blenders’ of the famous Champagne houses of Reims. Still today over 80% of the grapes grown on Montguex are sold to the great houses of Reims. There are however a number of independent producers such as Jacquess Lassaigne producing superb wines of character and depth. The current head of the house Emmanuel Lassaigne owns 4ha of vineyards, and produces on average 55 000 btls. All the bottles are hand disgorged and the dosagé tends to be fairly low (4g/l for Vin de Montgueux).
