Dean Hewitsons inspiration has been twofold, first and perhaps the foremost the wines and winemakers of the Rhône valley, but secondly the unique old vine vineyards of Barossa and its surroundings. Dean’s winery is quite new, founded only in 1996, before this he has worked as winemaker at the famous Petluma winery. Dean owns approximately 6ha of Vineyards in the Adelaide Hills region; on top of this he also buys grapes on long term contract. Dean prefers to use old vine fruit, which brings depth and complexity to his wines. The high average ages of the vines is evident in Deans wines as they have a unique depth and complexity, with a silky mouth feel and fine grained tannic structure. The elegance of Dean’s wines is further accentuated by his use of French oak, which lends less taste to the final wine but gives it a slight toastines and hints of development.
