Passion is what hat has allowed the Gustave Lorentz family to make great wines since 1836. It was this passion that drove Charles Lorentz Sr. to develop vineyards on the slopes of the Altenberg de Bergheim, in Alsace. As far back as anyone can recall, the grapes harvested from this terroir have been vinified separately. Thus, Riesling, Pinot-Gris, Gewurztraminer and other Muscat varieties from the Altenberg de Bergheim vineyards express their unique qualities year-to-year. Charles knew this - and his great perseverance resulted in the area becoming a Grand Cru.The house is today led by Georges Lorentz, the 6th generation of the family and based in the medieval village of Bergheim. The family is proud of the wines’ food friendly characteristics: fresh, clean, well-balanced and mostly dry. Gustave Lorentz was among the first producers in the Alsace to use screw-cap closures on their wines, and all their proprietary vineyards have been certified organic since the vintage 2012.
