Key dates: 1849 - Edouard-Jean & Adolphe Cointreau establish a distillery named Cointreau Frères (Cointreau Brothers) in Angers, France. 1875 - Edouard Cointreau, son of Edouard-Jean, finalizes the recipe of a very innovative spirit, after many years of research: Cointreau is born. 1923 - Cointreau goes global Today, the 6th generation of the Cointreau family, Alfred Cointreau, continues a legend started over 160 years ago. Cointreau is made from 100% natural ingredients: A perfect blend of sweet and bitter orange peels, to deliver a unique balance of zesty, fresh and fruity notes. Water, sugar and alcohol, chosen for their purity and neutrality, leaving room for the full expression of orange aromas.
