Cucullo Rum is a great tribute to something small - the Cucullo firefly. The fireflies were used as a natural light source in lanterns and to control harmful insects in the Caribbean sugarcane fields during the late 1920s. These fireflies diligently safeguarded the precious sugarcane crop, which is the very foundation of rum production. The pivotal role played by the Cucullo firefly as the guardian of rum inspired us to name our rum after this remarkable insect - a humble homage to its contribution to the world of rum.
